Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on July 2, 1958, Goodrick joined the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating from high school. He completed a 4-year tour of duty, serving as a plane captain responsible for inspecting most of the EA-6A jet systems before and after flights.

Goodrick returned to Cleveland to join his family’s business – Aable Rents – starting as a truck driver and working up to a branch manager. Wanting to grow and trying to decide the best path to take, he consulted a number of successful people, many in their 60s, who had all worked hard to achieve success. They all gave him the same advice: “Play more.”

Goodrick decided to do just that. He became an accomplished white-water river guide, working at various companies and locations in the United States and Costa Rica. He took backpacking trips and worked as an ocean lifeguard in Florida. And he went to school, graduating in 1994 with a B.B.A. in Finance from Florida International University.

He worked for Dean Witter and other brokerage houses for eight years, gaining experience researching investments, developing company asset allocation models and managing portfolios. He started American Asset Management, LLC, in 2002. American Asset Management, LLC, is a licensed Registered Investment Advisory firm that provides portfolio management utilizing a proprietary asset allocation model. The company founder and president is D. Scott Goodrick.  He closed the company and then went to work for Evergreen Investments as a trust Portfolio Manager. He left Evergreen to finish his 401k investing book, Making Dollars and Sense on Wall Street.

Goodrick uses asset allocation as the primary basis for investing. Asset allocation changes with changes in the economy and interest rates set by the Federal Reserve Bank. He builds on concentrated position in diversified investments, normally Exchange Traded Funds. He recommends any investment vehicle that he believes will make his clients money and is suitable for that particular investor.
